Kids in America Environmental Graphics Project
In my senior design studio, I contributed to the development, design, and animation of an interactive installation for the Keith and Catherine Stein Luminary at Boise State University. The Luminary is an all-digital, immersive museum space featuring touch-activated glass walls, high-lumen projection, and surround sound, designed to create dynamic, sensory-driven experiences.
Our class was divided into teams and tasked with interpreting sections of the song Kids in America by Kim Wilde. Each team translated their assigned verse into a cohesive visual experience, combining motion, interaction, and storytelling. Within my team, we established shared visual parameters such as scale, color, and composition, then individually designed interactive graphics based on specific lines from the song.
My piece was inspired by the lyric “I can feel the heat but it’s soothing,” which I interpreted as a reflection of youthful energy and rebellion. Drawing from the punk aesthetic of the 1980s, I created a design that incorporated raw, expressive, and grungy visual elements. The final result contributed to a larger, collaborative installation that celebrated youth culture through immersive, interactive design.
